Break Through Tech Chicago
In January 2020, the UIC Department of Computer Science was selected as the first recipient for the national expansion of Cornell Tech’s Break Through Tech program. In partnership with Pivotal Ventures, a Melinda Gates company, Break Through Tech is an initiative to propel women into higher education and tech careers, with the goal of achieving gender equality in tech. This grant is one of the largest received in the history of the UIC College of Engineering. Over the next 5 years, UIC will increase the percentage of women in the graduating class of computer science by focusing on curriculum innovation and innovative career access and community-building programs.
