Announcing Elizabeth Hamilton as associate provost and chief of staff, Office of the Provost and VCAA

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Elizabeth Hamilton, PhD, will be joining the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs as associate provost and chief of staff effective Jan. 1, 2022, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

Elizabeth is joining us from the University of Central Florida, where she is the assistant vice president for strategic planning in the Division of Administration and Finance. Previously, she was the assistant vice president for strategic action in the Office of the Provost at West Virginia University and had held a series of leadership roles in academic affairs focused on advancing institutional strategic priorities and accreditation.

Having served on the leadership teams of two public research universities, Elizabeth has extensive experience developing and implementing complex, universitywide initiatives across a wide range of academic and administrative areas. She also has been engaged with institutional accreditation processes for over a decade and has acted as a peer reviewer and accreditation liaison officer for the Higher Learning Commission, as well as an evaluator for SACSCOC.

Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in philosophy from Northwestern University, and Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in philosophy from the University of California, Riverside. She has research interests in ethics and social and political philosophy, focusing on theories of autonomy, moral responsibility and coercion.

I am confident Elizabeth will be an excellent addition to our team and to UIC.

Sincerely,

Javier Reyes
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
