Business dean and innovation leader named UIC provost

Dr. Javier Reyes, vice president of Start-up West Virginia and the Milan Puskar Dean of the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University, has been named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at University of Illinois Chicago. His appointment becomes effective Aug. 16, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

The provost serves as the UIC’s chief academic officer to advise on matters of academic policy, strategic direction, enrollment management and academic resource planning.

“Javier is a proven and talented leader, scholar and innovator who will bring thought leadership to UIC’s academic and research enterprise,” said UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis. “His vision and collaborative approach will help to shape our strategic priorities and the University’s future.”
