Interim Vice Provost & Associate Chancellor for Diversity

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that, effective August 16, 2017, Dr. Charu Thakral, the Associate Vice Provost for Diversity, will serve as the Interim Vice Provost & Associate Chancellor for Diversity, pending Board of Trustees approval. This will be the second time that Dr. Thakral has led the Office of Diversity in an interim capacity. Dr. Thakral also serves as adjunct faculty in the College of Medicine, Honors College, and College of Education.

Dr. Thakral has served in various leadership roles at UIC since 2005. Dr. Thakral currently serves as the co-Director of the UIC Dialogue Initiative and she led the development of Intergroup Dialogue courses in various colleges, including the UIC First Year Dialogue Seminar. In recognition of her contributions to UIC, Dr. Thakral earned the CAPE award in 2014.  She earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Multicultural Theory and Competence from Loyola University, Chicago.

We are delighted that Dr. Thakral has agreed to take on such an important leadership role. A search for a permanent Vice Provost & Associate Chancellor for Diversity is underway.
